Good news for IGNOU students! The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially extended the re-registration date for the July 2025 session. Now, students pursuing ODL (Open and Distance Learning) and Online Programmes can complete their re-registration process up to 15 September 2025.
This extension comes as a relief for many learners who could not complete the process before the earlier deadline. With this new timeline, students have more flexibility to ensure their continuation of studies without any academic gap.
What is IGNOU Re-Registration?
Re-registration is the process through which existing IGNOU students can enroll for the next year or semester of their programme. It is applicable only for those who are already enrolled in a programme and wish to continue their studies.
For example, if you are currently in the first year/semester, you need to re-register for the second year/semester of your programme. Without completing re-registration, you cannot proceed to the next academic cycle.

IGNOU Re-Registration: Step-by-Step (ODL & Online)
Before you start
- Keep ready: Enrollment number, registered email & mobile (to receive OTP), your Programme Guide (to choose the right courses), and a payment method (Card/Netbanking/UPI). The official portal specifically advises using your own card/net banking or UPI/BHIM and not sharing OTP/card details.
Step 1 — Open the official Re-Registration Portal
- Visit the IGNOU Re-Registration Portal and read the on-screen instructions carefully. You’ll see important notes about course selection, payments, and support. Tick the consent to proceed.
Step 2 — Login or create a portal account
- If you’re new to this portal, click New Registration and register with your correct mobile number and email (you’ll get OTPs/updates there).
- Already registered? Sign in with your username and password.
If you face issues (no OTP/forgot username or password), the portal instructs you to contact your Regional Centre to reset or update your email/mobile.
Step 3 — Confirm your profile & programme details
- Check your name, programme, and year/semester you’re moving to. Update contact details if prompted (as per the portal guidance, RCs can help if something needs a reset).
Step 4 — Choose your courses carefully
- Select the courses for the coming semester/year as per your Programme Guide. The portal explicitly warns that changing courses later can waste study time—so double-check combinations, credits, and any practicals.
Step 5 — Review your form
- Verify programme, courses, medium, and any optional components. Read the declaration and submit to move to payment.
Step 6 — Pay the re-registration fee (online)
- Pay securely via Debit/Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI (including BHIM). Avoid sharing OTPs or card details; prefer using your own payment method, as advised on the portal.
Step 7 — Download & save receipts
- After successful payment, download the Acknowledgement/Payment receipt (PDF). Keep it for records and future verification. You should also receive confirmations to your registered email/mobile.
Step 8 — Verify status after payment
- If your payment is successful but status isn’t updated immediately, the portal specifically says: don’t pay again right away—wait a day, then check status and decide next steps. If you accidentally pay twice for the same application, one payment will be refunded.
Step 9 — Track your re-registration
- Log back into the portal and check your re-registration/application status. If something is off (e.g., OTP problems, account issues), contact your Regional Centre for help, per the official instructions.
Quick Tips for Students
- Complete the process early—don’t wait for the last date.
- If using a cybercafé, make sure you select the correct courses yourself and collect both form printout and payment receipt.
- Keep your login credentials safe for future use.
