IGNOU Introduces Multiple Entry and Exit Scheme for 4-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUP)

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially launched the Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Scheme for its Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUP) starting from the July 2025 admission cycle. This initiative is aligned with the recommendations of the FYUP Committee and aims to provide greater flexibility to students in planning their academic journey.

What is the Multiple Entry and Exit Scheme?

The scheme allows students to enter and exit undergraduate programmes at different stages of their study, enabling them to continue their education as per their personal, professional, and academic needs. Both IGNOU students and students from other recognized institutions are eligible under specific conditions.

Key Features of the Scheme

1. Flexible Entry and Exit Options

Students can exit after completing:

  • 1st Year (2 Semesters)Undergraduate Certificate (44 Credits)
  • 2nd Year (4 Semesters)Undergraduate Diploma (84 Credits)
  • 3rd Year (6 Semesters)Bachelor’s Degree with Major (120 Credits)
  • 4th Year (8 Semesters)Bachelor’s Honours Degree (160 Credits)

2. Re-Entry for IGNOU Students

  • Certificate holders → direct entry to 2nd Year
  • Diploma holders → direct entry to 3rd Year
  • Previous credits are transferred to the new enrolment.
  • Time limit: 4 years for 2nd Year entry, 2 years for 3rd Year entry.

3. Entry for Students from Other Institutions

  • Eligible for entry to the 2nd Year with an Undergraduate Certificate.
  • At least 50% of credits must be earned at IGNOU as per Academic Bank of Credits rules.
  • Major and Minor subjects must match IGNOU’s offerings.

4. Additional Vocational Credits

Students exiting after the 1st or 2nd Year can opt for a 4-credit vocational course via IGNOU’s CRCS portal to strengthen their Certificate or Diploma.
